You can change your text message (SMS) two-factor authentication on your Frec account to using an authenticator app by going to your name at the top right-hand corner. Then click “Account settings” in the dropdown menu and select the “Security & privacy” tab.
Once you’re on the “Security & privacy” tab, click the words “Change method” next to SMS. A box will then appear asking you to select the two-factor authentication you want to use. Select, “Authenticator app” to change it from text messaging (SMS) to obtaining a code from an Authenticator app. Click “Continue.” You will then see a box with instructions on how to set up your authenticator app.
Next, decide which authenticator app you want to use. You will need to download the authenticator app onto your device. We support all major third-party authenticator apps. These common authenticator apps can be found in your mobile device store:
- Authy (iPhone, Android)
- Duo Mobile (iPhone, Android)
- Google Authenticator (iPhone, Android)
- Microsoft Authenticator (iPhone, Android)
- Okta Verify (iPhone, Android)
Once you’ve downloaded the app, confirm that you want to add an account to your authenticator app. You can then scan the QR code shown on Frec’s platform or enter the setup key provided directly below the QR code. Once you add the account, a verification code will be shown within the authenticator app next to the account you set up. Enter that code in the “Verification code” box and click “Continue.”
Keep in mind that the verification code provided within the authenticator is time sensitive and you will have to enter it within the Frec platform before the code times out within the app.
Once you complete the verification of two-factor authentication via an authenticator app, you will be provided a Backup code. This code is only shown to you once. We recommend that you save the code to a safe location in case you lose the device connected to your phone number and are unable to receive your two-factor authentication code.
Each time you log into your account, you will be required to enter the code shown inside your authenticator app. You will need to open the app before logging in and follow the instructions above. You can also change how you receive your two-factor authentication code back to SMS by following the above instructions and clicking “SMS” instead of “Authenticator app.”
If you’d prefer to only enter a verification code every 30 days, you can check the box next to “Trust this device for 30 days” when you enter your Verification code during login. If you check the box and log in, you will not be asked for a verification code until 30 days have elapsed.
